Well more like fire in the weeds actually as I caught the NYFD in action at the Gerritsen Creek Salt Marsh during my afternoon constitutional. There was also an NYPD helicopter circling around in the air overhead until the special weed fire truck got to the fire.Lots of our NYC tax dollars at work here just because most likely some stupid kids started the phragmites australis ablaze for the nth time over the years. It appears to be some kind of teenage boy right of passage in the area.
The strong westerly winds that were blowing at the time were also a major problem for the firefighters to deal with:
