The War in Iraq

OK I'm back after a brief absence from here in good old Brooklyn, NY USA.

The war with Iraq is all over the TV & papers and it looks like it’s going to be a bit longer than at first was hoped by the powers that be.

The reason I decided to post again is that I've been reading about that missing Iraqi blogger who is creating a bit of a buzz on the net. Some feel that he may be a fake as he may not be really in Iraq or even a he or whatever.

Observations about the war from my neck of the woods are that it doesn't seem to have that great grass roots support that our last war with Iraq had. There seems to be more anti-war demonstrations this time and fewer pro-war ones. Not as may flags out in front of homes in my neighborhood but I did walk down one block last week where all the trees and poles had yellow ribbons tied to them. I’m guessing that someone who lives on that block has a close relative in the military.

I’m kind of mixed in my feelings about the war as I’m all for the troops but I don’t feel our President did a good enough job in selling the war to the American people. He never made it clear enough as to what exactly was the imminent threat from Saddam that justifies all that goes into waging a war with another nation.

I hope this all works out soon in that we get the job done over there ASAP and get most of the troops back home, with the minimum of damage to Iraq and her people.

I feel the country should be more focused on tracking down that low life scum, Osama Bin Laden, and the rest of the remaining Al Qaeda leaders that are still at large.

Security is the tightest I have ever seen it in New York City and I’m still not used to seeing police & soldiers walking around with automatic weapons. Plus they are tightening up security access to buildings in the area where I work by adding additional guards and security checkpoints. Many of you people in other areas of the globe may be used to all this but it’s all new to most of us American citizens, even those of us in the Big Apple.
